Saptapadi (seven steps)- An important ritual in a Hindu wedding. Om [resence of the holy fire or agni and bearing witness to the seven vows of marriage a couple takes seven steps or Saptapadi.  It is believed that the presence of fire represents all the powerful energy sources of the universe. Gachhkouto is an inseparable accessory of a new bride during the entire Bengali wedding ceremony. The small red-coloured wooden pot containing vermillion (sindoor) and a silver coin, is believed to be an accessory of Goddess Lakshmi (the Goddess of wealth and prosperity). The Topor is the conventional headgear of the groom that is worn in Bengali weddings.

Here’s a Saptapadi in Alpona.
